Shadow people are paranormal shadow-like creatures that people usually see in their peripheral vision. Reports suggest that they do not appear to reflect light and that their appearance is essentially a silhouette in black.
They usually have no discernible features beyond the general outline of their form. However, shadow people have been reported to have shifted into a more human form and in these instances it is said that sometimes features such as glowing eyes and sometimes mouths or nostrils are discernible.
Reports of shadow people, sometimes called shadow folk, shadow men, or shadow beings, have many similarities with ghost sightings, so many similarities that many paranormal experts consider ghost and shadow people one and the same.
However, other experts disagree and claim that shadow people are a separate phenomenon from ghosts for a variety of reasons.
First, they claim that the movement of shadow people is said to be quick and jerky, sometimes with stops, starts, and changes of direction, not at all like the smooth floating motion often associated with ghost sighting. This is apparently the primary reason they are usually seen out of the corner of the eye.
Second, some people report being able to discern that the shadow people are wearing a fedora style hat like a 1930’s-era gangster or a cloak.
Third, shadow people usually appear quite solid, unlike the ephemeral appearance of ghosts.
Fourth, there are very few reports of positive interactions with shadow people.
Unlike the friendly ghost sightings that are fairly common, encounters with shadow folk are almost always frightening or shocking. In fact, even the experts that view shadow men as a subset of ghosts, usually concede that shadow men are a malignant beings.
The supporters of shadow people as a separate and unique phenomenon offer all sorts of speculation about the nature of shadow people using ideas from religion, parapsychology, metaphysics, and the occult.
One of the many ideas is that shadow people represent a Thought-form, ghost or demon that was created by extraordinary pain, suffering, and trauma in a dying persons life. Others suggest that shadow folk have been purposefully summoned from another realm through black magic or other occult practices.
The fact that they do not seem to reflect light has led some to theorize that they are from an alternate universe with different laws of physics or perhaps they are caught in a trap between two physical universes. David Icke has proposed that shadow people are related to Grey aliens, or to the Reptilian humanoids.
The theories about the nature of shadow people are almost endless, but they are certainly quarry that should only be sought out by experienced, well equipped ghost hunting teams – never by solo hunters.
I wasnt born at this time but my mom said that when she used to live in a condo in boston, she was pregnant with my would be older sister. she was sleeping one night and then woke up to a feeling of something pushing on her back she then felt the baby scratch and move. after that they learned that the baby died
I was born an only child, and my parents, may they rest in peace, were older parents, as my mom had me in her forties. My parents were very old fashioned and also athiests! It all began when I was around three years old, my father did not believe in anything, spirits, God nothing, and my mom was pretty much right behind him in her beliefs. My father used to get very mad at me, because I was so afraid to go to bed at night, that I was sick to my stomach. I would cry in complete horror, when they would make me go to bed alone, as I was tormented by shadow dogs for years ! They would appear when I was very tiard, and I was just about to go to sleep. They were not a dream, because I would be awake. The shadow dogs would usually be in a pack of at least five or six at a time, and they would suround my bed and growl at me in a deep slow menacing growl. They were mostly black in color,some of them a deep charcoal grey with red eyes. They would talk to me, not in words but in a telipathic manner. The haunting started when I was about two years old, and continued until I was about six or seven years old, and then abrouptly stopped one day, and then I never saw them again after that thank God. I remember they would growl at me and try and bite me, but they never bit my skin, but they were constantly snapping at me and baring their teeth while growling and foaming at the mouth. I was so scared that I remember being sick to my stomach when I saw them. I felt so scared, I can\\\’t even begin to discribe how bad I felt over seeing them, because my father was angry at me for thinking that they are real, when he kept telling me that there is no such thing, and telling me that I was just having a nightmare.
This was such a problem, that I was litterally unable to sleep alone, so my mother began sleeping with me most of the time, at least until I fell asleep, and then she would leave the room, and go back to bed with my father. Sometimes as soon as she left the room, the shadow dogs would appear again and begin the menacing growling and bearing of their teeth, until I screamed for my mom, and she would come running to my room, and they would dissapear again.I remember crying and begging my parents to help protect me, and keep the shadow dogs away from me. I remeber my mom felt bad for me, because I was so afraid! It was more of an issue with my dad, because Im sure I was interfearing with their lives as a couple, when my mom had to constantly sleep with me, or I would go into a frenzy with fits of crying and begging my mom to sleep with me in my room or else I would die, because I knew these shadow dogs wanted to kill me. I lived in sheer terror for several years with these shadow dogs tormenting me. I do not know if they were entites, or deamond dogs or sent by the devil himself, but they were sheer evil, and the thought of them still make me shutter in fear, and I am forty five years old today. I will never understand why they choose me to torment me like they did. This was the scarriest thing that ever happened to me in my life !!! I am a firm believer that whatever they were, it was pure evil!!!
I think these are demons that have been summended, usually from people being stupid and not knowing what they are dealing with. I think they prey on children and the elderly. exspecially if the human person have no positive inner faith to help protect them. I think they can pretend to be good or disguise themselves as children to coaks human children to go with them to their death, out a window , smothered, or other ill faited incidents, protect your children while their young have them babtised teach them a prayer or to call on a deceased love one to protect them . good luck.
I know for a fact that the shadow people do exist. Me and my 13 yr old daughter have been seeing them for about 4 yrs now. I have moved us twice in the hopes that we would leave them behind that they would not follow them. but no matter what we do where we go or where we live they are still in our lives. if not on a daily basis at least a weekly basis
My cousin says she sees shadow people in her apartment and that her 3-year-old nephew cries and points to a corner of the room saying there’s a monster.
I don’t think they were demons but rather a manifestation of some sort of fear you had. Lets call them The pack, what they were doing was most likely feeding off of your fear they wouldn’t really heart you because that would be hurrting them selves seeing as they were a part of you…maybe you showed some strength one day and that made them go to sleep…but there still with you
I have seen shadow people for 45 years starting as a teenager every so often. Even if I closed my eyes, I could see them walking by as a long hall of light would illuminate them somewhat. At night I would see them leaving the light and in the morning I see them walking back into the light. Its like a slow march…..my husband recently passed away and they have stepped up visits to nightly. One night I heard a female voice say “hello”. No emotion in it just very nonchalant. That did scare me and I said the Our Father then fell back asleep. I always wake around 3am to some kind of light then see them mostly periphally but I have seen them right in front of me and in the mirror also. I have been told that I can partially see another dimension and I could train to see more but I don’t want to see any of it and usually just say that and it stops…..

When I was a young child of about 6 years, I used to see a shadow man in a fedora on the wall outside my bedroom. I never gave two thoughts about it because I never thought anyone experienced this besides myself, and figured it was just my mind playing tricks on me. This was over 30 years ago. On a whim, I recently decided to do an internet search, and when I found out that the \"man in a fedora\" was one of the most common types of shadow person, I FREAKED. I don\’t believe in the paranormal, but this is definitely something that I\’m totally at a loss to explain.
My 7 year old daughter has been seeing the dead for several years now, and one day while eating supper she said “I think I’m being followed” i asked by whom and she stated a man, all in black. she sees him by her bus stop and now she sees him at her school and she sees him when she comes home from school, he’ll be standing by the front kitchen window watching her. What does this mean and are they bad as i’ve heard?
I know that the hat man is real because, he came to me when I had to be about three years old. I remember I was crying so hard for along time in my crib for my mom or dad to come for me. I know that sound strange being able to remember that but, that’s when he came to me. He pick me up and took me to their room. It was real late at night. when he was taking me to their room I asked “mommy- daddy” ?and in a very slow nod he shook no. All I remember than was him putting me between my sleeping parents. I find this story very interesting in that the shadow of your hat man resembles a picture that I have from my nephews funeral. I obtained a picture from a relative whom I had to take a picture from their cell phone but I do have the close up of the figure. A detailed face appears. In the early 90s I was in the military and lived in a small room in the barracks with a room mate. We separated our room with wall lockers so that we could have some privacy when we slept or changed cloths.
One night while sleeping on my back (I rarely sleep like that) I woke up feeling scared. To this day I have no idea why I woke up from a sound sleep, but I could see a smoke cloud forming by my bed. As I write this it sounds strange because my room was dark but this shadow forming was darker then dark. As this black cloud started to gather I became paralyzed, the only thing I could do was look at this thing. As the shadow tried to become “human like” the more pressure that it placed on my body until it became hard for me to breath. I really thought that it was literally taking my breath away. At the last moments of my encounter his transformation was almost complete; I could make out his broad shoulders his hat and his overall tall muscular build. Even if it’s been about 20 years later, have no idea why his hat sticks in my mind. Don’t get me wrong but being paralyzed as part of the encounter was scary too, but the image of the hat keeps me up at night. I think that my issue with the shadow wearing a hat is that I do not believe that this thing was ever human but I think that it believes if it shows its self with a hat that it makes its self more “human like”.
As I became weaker, because of my attempt to struggle and fight this thing and because it was taking my breath away, its shape was becoming more and more human like. The very last moment of this attack, I mustered the last bit of my energy and yelled “Jesus, help me!” and then the shadow vanished. My roommate oblivious to my struggle yelled out to be quite and go back to sleep.
Luckily to this day I haven’t had another attack but I always fear that it will happen again. I hope that I will have enough power to fight this thing away again because I really do believe that they can overpower a weak person or elderly person.
So my last comment is that I do not believe that they are ghost, I do not believe that they are some kind of time travelers or aliens. I believe that they are closer to being demonic or are demonic. The reason why I think this way is because they get stronger as they take your breath away and they only will go away if you ask for help from a higher good power such as when I asked for Jesus’ help.
In response to HG(assuming you’ll actually read this), I know what you experienced. It was sleep paralysis, a phenomena where your mind wakes up while your body is still asleep. What you saw was a shadow figure. Now, I’m not going to say it was real, and I’m not going to call it an hallucination, but you only saw it because you were still in the astral plane.

I remember once when I was nine years old,I saw shadow people.In my house they would follow me around and every time i would go to and leave church i would either get sick or something bad happens.The weird part is that i wasn’t scared but they kept following me. i’d brush it off with a hi and try to approach them but they would diappear.they stopped by the time i was 12.i never told my family about cuz then they would look at me crazy.i’m 13 now and it never happened again. sometimes i wish they kept following me they make me feel better.now reading this article it gives me a better outlook on it, thanks.:)

Is it possible that they are the manifestations of negative energy? What happens when you cannot ground your own energy? Can it take on a form of its own, especially with negative energy being so powerful? Is it also possible that it has something to do with analternate universe? The dense shadow with a suffocating feeling makes me think black holes and links to quantum physics. For 10 yrs now ive been seeing dark figures, mostly tall cloaked ones.
some very small and some that make no sense at all. I feel they are here all the time no matter where i move and i have actually slept in my vehicle to even get sleep.
